Dansko
Professional Clog
Our decision to recommend the Dansko Women’s Professional Clog was easy enough to make. All three products were in the same price range and yet these clogs were superior in every category. From materials used and design to actual performance, the competition wasn’t even close. They simply offer more comfort and more stability when walking. The extra archway support and foam footbed are well worth the price tag. Also, their durability makes them a very cost-effective choice for any nurse.

Introduction

Nurses are often just as responsible for keeping people alive as the doctors are. Just imagine a nurse that’s working the tray in the O.R slipping on a wet tissue. That’s something no one wants happening to them.

Sadly, accidents like these are not uncommon and most of them can be prevented by simply using better footwear. Regular orthopedic shoes can’t always cut it in a hospital. This is why some companies design clogs specifically for nurses.

We’ve put together a short list of products we found to be helpful and comfortable. We invite you to take a look and become more familiar with their features. We will point out what features you should look for, as well as offer our recommendation as to which product is the best overall.

Working in an emergency room can be tiresome. Furthermore, working in an operating room requires complete focus and control. Having to walk on sometimes slippery surfaces can cause serious problems.

The Women’s Professional PU Clog from Sanita performs very well in these types of stressful scenarios. The outsole is slip resistant and eliminates one of the major problems nurses and doctors have. In fact, you can even wear these outside in the snow during a break, without having to change into your street shoes.

The outsole is also reinforced with a hard plastic frame that makes the shoe much more durable. As a handmade product, it features fewer flaws than mass-produced ones. It may not be the best looking clog, but it takes care of business in the workplace.

The platform is almost 1 inch tall and the heel another 1.75 inches, which is not too high to cause balance issues. If anything, it can give you a bit of a boost if you’re shorter.

The clog comes in both white and black, which is great for people that work at hospitals or clinics with a strict color code. The inside sole is synthetic and you might want to consider using insoles when working long shifts. Changing between two pairs of clogs from time to time may even allow you to increase their life expectancy.

Alegria has also created an excellent shoe that has gained a great reputation among nurses. This model has a 1-inch platform and a 1.5-inch heel, and is comfortable to walk in for multiple hours. The flat sole design is not its best feature, but it’s also nothing a pair of insoles can’t solve.

The use of full leather on the outside of the shoe gives it a stylish look. There is no hardened archway support, which can be good for people that like a bit more freedom. However, no support can also mean foot fatigue.

When done right, archway support makes a big difference on a shoe that’s meant for long work hours. The small leather band that keeps these shoes on your feet is not the best idea we’ve seen. It is necessary though, given the wide design of the clogs.

The rubber soles have a decent pattern that helps prevent slipping. Maybe it’s not the best choice for 24-hour shifts, but it will keep you on your feet on wet surfaces. The flat footbed can sometimes feel weird after long hours, though.

If your feet are smaller than the average size, you might want to look at other models, or at least wear some thicker socks. The wide design of these shoes makes them a good fit for some, but also too complicated for others.

These clogs from Dansko, although similar in price to the ones previously mentioned, have some extra features you might be interested in. They make use of shock-absorption and toe protection to become a multi-purpose shoe. In a chaotic workplace environment, this extra protection can prevent many injuries.

The use of synthetic soles is not unexpected in this price range. But it’s the additional improvements that set these clogs apart from other similar looking products. Full leather is used to offer a classy exterior, as well as some extra durability.

Slip prevention combined with the leather make for a very good shoe for nurses to use in any wet environment. The heel is higher than what most models offer. A 2-inch heel gives a bigger boost for shorter nurses who may not be able to reach every counter or shelf.

With the platform being at 0.75 inches, the design is neither too flat nor too curbed to cause fatigue. The padded archway also provides great support and a lot of comfort during long shifts. There is also a bit of temperature control that comes from the footbed.

The padded foam footbed is made from breathable materials. This not only provides some temperature regulation, but it also keeps the inside dryer. With all the synthetic insulations, there is always the risk of tearing if the feet sweat too much. These clogs handle this in a very cost-effective way.

Conclusion

Because the differences in price tags are insignificant, we can’t say that one product is more affordable than the others. In terms of how they perform on wet surfaces, we’ve determined that all of them are up to the task. The differences in features are more related to how long they can last and how comfortable they are.

Dansko were very comfort-oriented when they made their clogs. They added shock-absorption and archway padding to make a shoe that goes well on any type of surface. The extra heel height will also come in very handy.

The nurse shoes from Sanita are also a good choice. They provide enough protection both inside and out. However, they do lack toe protection, which is why Dansko gets the edge.

Alegria is another interesting choice. Because of the wide design of this shoe, nurses with bigger-than-average feet might find it a better fit. This is a good feature but, it also makes it a niche, targeted product.
